Robin Takes The Scenic Route

April 2019 Writing Challenges: Days 19-21

4/22/2019

One thing I've been forced to do more often is go live during these challenges. <sigh> I don't like going live. I don't feel comfortable at all on film. What I do like is working with the editing features on my S10+. (They did not pay me to say that, btw...I just enjoy editing films and photos alike. The creative process is great fun. Anyway, I hope you'll get a chance to see the video on IG. If not, keep following for updates on when those videos might be uploaded to YouTube. I intend to upload all my IG Lives to YouTube. I just don't know when my internet signal will be strong enough that it doesn't take all night and then fail anyway. <sigh> On with the challenge responses!!

If you've ever wanted to read a novel before it goes out in finished form, or if you've ever wished you could help an author get rid of those unsightly typos or crazy plot holes, then here's your chance! I'm now uploading chapters of Over Land & Under Stone to Wattpad. (Just click on the photo to go to the book on Wattpad.) You'll have the chance to leave feedback on the paragraphs and chapters as you come across issues. And I express my thanks to you most heartily for your help! To those that would say 'I like it' or 'I hate it' and leave it at that, it's nice to know how you are receiving it. But short statements like that don't help me improve my writing much. So if you would, please include a short snippet of what you liked or hated and I will endeavor to always improve. Thanks in advance!

I read through my novel and noticed there's a lot missing that readers would probably appreciate knowing. I'm trying to fill in those holes in the current revision. That's why the feedback on Wattpad is so important to me right now. I need to know how it all comes across to a reader.

Interestingly enough, I don't have any Easter memories that stand out more than others. Traditionally, we woke up early and went through our baskets. Then we ate breakfast and went to Easter Sunday services at church. When we came home, we usually feasted with family. It was rare to actually hunt eggs on Easter. We always did that at school when there were more children to compete with.

If there are any hidden messages in my work, please inform me because I didn't add them in on purpose. I don't work that way intentionally.

Day 20 asked us to share our WIP mood. That's difficult for me and I don't know why just yet. I do know that Zec most often asks himself why Andurdrao has chosen him to be an Emissary. There's also a lot of disappointment in general with the way Genzet is being torn apart from the inside by factions and religions. It kinda gives it that "argh" vibe, if you ask me.

Day 20 - We were asked to go live and say hey to our followers. I'm doing my best to say more than just 'hey' or create a gif or short video. I really do want to offer what I've learned about writing. I like helping people when I'm able. So if for some reason my video decides it doesn't want to load to IG today (which is actually Apr 21), just keep checking my IGTV for that update. I'm talking about Wattpad, Scribophile and a couple of writing groups that helped me.

I haven't really ironed any details out on this yet. But I do know there are safe rooms for those running for their lives. There are escape tunnels. But for some disasters in Genzet, there may not be an escape. In the case of a cave-in, those in the most central locations would probably lose their lives while those on the outskirts of the danger zone might live. In the case of a volcanic eruption, I think they'd probably have enough warning to vacate their cities being so in tune with their surroundings. Flooding is very rare in Genzet but if that should occur, then I would imagine it might claim the most lives. After all, it's pretty hard to stop molten lava but it can be outrun in certain circumstances. Water, however, goes where it will at pretty high speeds.
