This weekend was packed full of late nights and hustle. I'm still somewhat groggy from all we did over the weekend. In the midst of everything, I managed to reach my Camp Nano 2018 goal of 50,000 words. I'm still writing, though, since that only gets me halfway through one of my novels. Here's a run-down of my writing challenge posts for the weekend.
I like writing challenges like this one. They make me think of all the fun personality quizzes I used to take. And since I like personality quizzes so much, I'll probably try to create a couple to go along with my books. I've never done that kind of thing before but it should be a fun learning experience. I might try during the summer. Please look forward to it! :)
#WIPjoy Day 26 - Your MC As A Type Of Weather
OK, so I had so much fun thinking about this I decided to throw my antagonists out there, too.
Sorry I don't have much time to elaborate on these. One of my fellow writers came for a tea and cake visit today. It was super fun and I can't wait to meet up with her again for a word sprint. And tonight is date night with my Mr. Awesome. I didn't make it to 50,000 words yet but apparently he believes in me. XD He's definitely a keeper. Hope y'all enjoy these comparisons and are looking forward to the finished product. As slow as I work, I'm still hoping to have it ready for Wattpad in 6-9 months. Yea! Work In Progress!
Yesterday we were to share an earnest or sincere line from our WIP. I wrote three chapters yesterday (4888 words total, a possible new personal best). So there I am at 10:00 p.m. scouring my work for a sincere line. I finally found one. Wonder of wonders! It's Outh'n Durr, one of my antagonists, who offers it. He seems to be mellowing out a bit. I wonder if that will last.
#WIPjoy Day 26 - Share an earnest or sincere line.
I managed to get caught up on my writing challenges yesterday. I hope I won't get behind on them again. I'm also behind on my Nano word count. Thankfully, I'm not so far behind that I can't catch up. If I can manage to write two chapters a day, I'll still make it over my goal, which is always my ultimate goal. XD
#WIPjoy Day 23 - The way to my MC's heart is through _________.
I feel like I should explain a little about this. Ya'el is a born healer. She cares about the people, from their mental health to their physical health. If you really want to grab her attention, then you must have a need she can see. Once you've done that, you've found the key that opens the door to her heart.
In Kol's case, he won't give you the time of day if you show no motivation to live life to the best of your ability. If you show you're genuinely trying hard, continuing on even when you fail, you'll catch his eye. He also won't waste time on those who treat others badly simply because they can.
#WIPjoy Day 24 - You're stranded in your WIP. Who do you go to for help?
I feel like this one needs a bit of explaining, too. Yacan is of necessity a dangerous place. That's key for the survival of Edrea and the people living there. If you find yourself stranded there, you'd probably be caught by guards before you could find someone who'd help. But if you didn't, then you'd still want to talk to Kol. He's intimidating but he's fair. He'd hear you out, at least. If you could find Mi'yat, she'd hear you out, too, but she stays very busy.
In my opinion, the Windows store sucks for apps but I'm trying out a time tracker I found there. So far, it's working pretty well. Unless it shows me something truly amazing, I probably won't mention it again. I just want to know where all my time is going. I think I have a clue but it would be nice to see a visual. If it's interesting, I guess I could share that with you guys... Hmmm... Until next time!
The story of my life includes many chapters and 'Schedule Shmedule' is one I can't seem to avoid. I hate making schedules because I can never keep to them. Something always happens to get in the way. Even with writing challenges, I haven't been able to make it through a single one without missing at least a day and having to catch up. I did think it would happen with the current ones, though, considering I'm also writing for Camp Nano. So here's my catch-up post for one of the challenges. Tomorrow will be a catch-up post for the other.
#BAWritingLife Day 7 - My Writing Friends! You Should Follow Them!
I'm now blessed with so many writing friends, it's impossible to add them all into one post. But these are the ones who've actually gone above and beyond in some way, or stood out for other reasons. If you're on Instagram, definitely look them up and follow them. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Again, the weekend flew by filled with activity and short road trips for shopping. In order to find more variety for our chosen dietary changes, we've opted to shop in the nearest large town every week or two, as we are able. But that means I'm exhausted by the time we return and there's no time for me to write before we leave. I'm thinking weekends will continue to be 'soc-med/blog days off.' I'd rather have a definite idea of what I need to do and goodness knows downtime is just as important as writing every day. Social media can be a real drag when you don't get a break.
Here are the writing challenges I met over the weekend.
#WIPjoy Day 19 - How would one of the MC's family members describe them?
#BAWritingLife - Day 4 - Favorite Writing Quote
This is a perfect example of leaving things 'til the last minute and then getting them wrong in so many weird ways that you just kinda have to laugh because the alternative is to curl up in a ball in the corner of a dark room and grow mushrooms on your head. I felt a run-on sentence would best illustrate the madness. ;) Not only did I label the day incorrectly, I also pasted the wrong tag at the bottom. *sigh*
#WIPjoy Day 20 - Antagonist, what made you first decide to achieve your goals?
#BAWritingLife - Day 5 - Favorite Books/Genre
These are only some of my favorites. They were the ones I could easily grab off my shelf. The Demon Prince of Momochi House Vol. 11 is a new acquisition and once again, I wait impatiently for volume 12 to be released. This is actually the first set of manga I allowed myself to purchase. Manga is like tattoos and Lays Chips -- you can't have just one.
#WIPjoy Day 21 & 22 - Why does the MC's best friend stick with them?
#BAWritingLife - Day 6 - My Why I Write
I write for my family. I think it's important to leave a positive legacy behind when I'm finally gone. So my goal is to write in such a way that I can be proud of what I do, my family can be proud of what I do, and -- most importantly -- the God I serve can be pleased with what I do.
Yesterday I decided it was time to start putting my marketing graphics together for 'Over Land & Under Stone'. I'm not certain whether it will be ready before my current Nano project but since the rough draft is together, I'd like to get as much done as possible on the promotional things. Time management is crucial for me and I'm so bad at it. But I keep going.
Oh, the excitement! I have some great news to share with you at the end of today's challenge post. I can hardly wait.
But before that, I feel I should apologize for the sporadic posting over the past weekend. I normally don't post on weekends anyway, but this time life just got in the way. I was playing a game of catch-up with my IG challenges, too.
I accepted a week-long challenge that I'll also start sharing with you today. The #BAWritersLife Challenge is hosted by @authorbethanyatazadeh on IG. If you don't follow her yet, you should definitely do so.
Did anyone else have nasty weather over the weekend? "Reluctant Spring Weekends" seems to be the theme this year as we continue to see strong cold fronts bring awful storms through our area. On Saturday, our power was out for the morning.
My Camp Nano writing is still going well but I'm having to work harder at it. I'm at a point now where I'm not sure how I want the story to proceed. So I've decided to write two plot lines and choose the one I'm most happy with to work more with and refine later on. Whichever one I drop, I may still hold on to it for a 'what if' type of short story add-on which I may include in the printed edition of the book.
Well, you guys have waited long enough for the challenge updates.
Since starting this blog post yesterday, I had to postpone sharing it with you because life happens. So I'm adding yesterday's challenge post, as well.
#WIPjoy Day 11 - Share a line that surprised you.
You guys get another small snippet of rough draft today. This is Kol teaching Ya'el how to use her new form. She's a bit afraid because she's not a strong swimmer so her responses are full of sass. It surprised me because I could hear my oldest daughter so clearly in the last line Ya'el speaks. XD Too funny! My husband and I laughed over that for a while.
