As the last week of June speeds by, I find I'm overworking myself with this website update. So in order to focus on getting everything in order for the update, I'm taking a break with the blog. My goal is to have everything ready by August, but honestly, I don't know if it wouldn't be better to just start it back up in September. I'll keep my newsletter subscribers posted so if you want regular updates, scroll to the bottom of this page and click the button to subscribe. You'll get access to some cool freebies, too. (Well, I think they're cool. I put my heart and soul into making them for you. ;) )
Let's get to the books!
Book Reviews: His Beautiful Bea by Leenie Brown & The Governess by Mary Kingswood
His Beautiful Bea: A Touches of Austen Novella by Leenie Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Very nicely done!
Only a few typos and more true to the genre than many others I've read lately. I love that the heroine is behaving as she should while still making her thoughts known. I also enjoyed the hero having some believable flaws and shortcomings. I loved the plot, too. Overall, this story was, I think, well done. Give it a try if you like clean Regency romance.

The Governess by Mary Kingswood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I think 4.5 stars would be a better rating for this book. I really enjoyed it! And I was satisfied that it's claim to be Austen'esque in nature was a fair estimation. There were a few slips in dialog and action but not very many. I felt it was a bit long, but overall, the plot was well done -- well thought out. The characters interested me. I thought the villain was a tad overdone. However, while I suspected this person, I was never certain until around the time the investigating officers were getting around to that conclusion, so well done there!
I'd definitely like to read some more of this author's work. It was clean, kept me interested, and took me away to a different place and time. If you enjoy clean regency stories of romance and intrigue, then you should give this one a try.

Oh, my! I fell prey to a couple of spelling errors! LOL Can you find them? XD I guess that's to be expected when I'm fighting to stay awake just so I don't forget to put in the review. Of these two authors, Mary Kingswood has more in common with Jane Austen's writings than Leenie Brown, but both were enjoyable reads. The authors' names are linked to their websites. Please do visit and check out some of their other literary works.
#TBR: The Widow (The Silver Linings Mysteries, #1) by Mary Kingswood
By the time this post goes out, I may have actually finished reading The Widow, but I'm preparing this to go out before I start reading it. I'm actually looking forward to reading another book by Mary Kingswood. I feel like she's come the closest to Jane Austen of all those whose books I've read over the last couple of years who claim to model their stories after that great literary Lady.
On a sad note, I started three romance novels and before I reached the end of chapter three in any of them, realized they were all stories in which the author believes passion is equal to romance and physical attraction is the sole reason anyone gets romantically close to anyone else. Since I believe a relationship based on such a flimsy foundation is not something that will last, I had little reason to believe in the main characters in these stories and put down the books. That's not to say these books had no merit at all, just not for me.
As I mentioned earlier, I'll be taking at least a month, maybe two, haitus from blogging to focus on my website updates. Changes like this are difficult for me. I'll be continue sending out my newsletter as usual for those who enjoy following my writing journey. This will help me keep a sense of regularity in my blog-related work.
Thanks for your continued support and encouragement and also your prayers during this strange and troublesome time.
