The third week of May is here and no matter where I'm staying at home or running the roads, it seems time flies. I'd sigh, but there's no time! XD I gave myself about a week and a half break from Surge to catch my breath, but the work has started up again. Now, if I can just maintain my focus...
Join me this week as I highlight some up-and-coming indie authors who give their all to their writing. We aren't perfect. We aren't rich. We just tell our tales in the best way we can. Thanks for supporting indie authors in all genres! Book Reviews: Finding Grace & When Magic Calls
Finding Grace by Michelle Wright
![]() My rating: 5 of 5 stars I had been waiting for this book to come out as I've been following the author's progress on IG. I really enjoyed the story. There were a few typos, but they didn't really pull me out of the reading. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed seeing their progress and growth from beginning to end. This is an inspirational romance and a clean read. There's also a lovely ending. If you enjoy those things, give this book a try. It's a great first (published) novel and I look forward to the sequel. View all my reviews
When Magic Calls: A Collection of Modern Fairy Tales by Caitlin Berve
![]() My rating: 5 of 5 stars I love adding great indie reads to my bookshelf! If you like urban fantasy and fairytales, and you also enjoy them a with a twist and a little on the dark side, I highly recommend giving Caitlin Berve's "When Magic Calls" a try! I found the collection of short stories thought-provoking and memorable. My favorite story was the last one. I was actually in tears at the end. The author has truly done an excellent job showcasing her talent, both in the scope of her imagination and in the technical application. She's got a book she can be proud of, I believe. Caitlin Berve also hosts a wonderful and informative YouTube channel. If you haven't checked that out, you should.
#CurrentlyReading: Home to Find Love by Aurora Hanson
This may be the only non-indie author in today's post. I couldn't find information about a publisher, so I'm assuming she's an indie. This book is only available through her website but I did find it listed at Goodreads which is where I found the photo below and where you'll be directed if you click on this photo. If you click the author's name, you'll be taken to her website.
#TBR: The Treasonist's Son & Lucas (Bayou Boys book 2)
I won the first book in this series a year ago and it took me forever to get through my TBR stack and finally read it. I found it very interesting and perfect for middle-grade through teens. Jameson C. Smith writes her story in a wimsical sort of way that draws the reader in and makes them comfortable. To me, that's the sign of a good storyteller. If you enjoy dystopian fiction and fantasy, you'll want to add this to your list.
The Bayou Boys series by Leah Atwood starts out with the book Rex, which is what you'll see when you click on the photo above. You can preorder Lucas right now on Amazon, which is where the photo comes from. I just can't link to Amazon because they've been going crazy with their affiliate stuff and linking to certain products from other sites. Also, I've had problems using the links they /do/ provide, so, I just try to link to Goodreads instead. I hope you'll check out this series and support one of my fellow indie authors. Her books are perfect for a cozy day of peaceful reading.
Did you see anything you like? I know there's an overabundance of romance novels. I honestly read more of those these days, but I'm also reading more non-fiction than I used to. If you did see something that interested you, please let me know in the comments which ones you're going to try out. I'd love to hear about what you think when you're done, too. I respectfully request you consider leaving reviews, especially on indie author's books. It's one of the few ways an indie can gain some ground in the ultra-competitive realm of writing.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll come back Friday to check out my progress on the writing challenges and again next Wednesday to see more books and authors which caught my eye. Until then...
