November Writing Challenges: Days 8 - 14

11/15/2019

Hey there, fellow Wrimos! And hey to all of you faithful readers! :) I hope November has been a beautiful month for you so far. I'm finding it to be quite the challenge, both in writing and in my home life. Christmas is fast approaching and I'm making homemade things for Christmas this year. I still have so much to do!
The two challenges I'm working on are going fairly well. I've missed two of the writing prompts so far, I think. Perhaps it was three? But if you'd like to see snippets of my work, I'm still sharing a line (or a few) a day. Read on to check out how the challenges went this past week!

#MyNanoUpdate2019 & #1WordPromptChallenge Days 8 - 14

Here's the run down:
  • Day 8 - Daily Word Count: 2085; Total Word Count: 19830; Prompt: Scatter - I don't always use the prompt word as it's written but I try to share a line that at least shares idea of that word. Lines: "You don't command me, Eiva Di'Amo. Keep your comments to yourself," he snapped. He spat on the ground in frustration. "Focus, Outh'n," Kol recalled his attention, punctuating his words with a thump of the staff on the platform.
  • Day 9 - Daily Word Count: 227; Total Word Count: 20057; Prompt: Organize - Lines: For the next few hours, the two sparred furiously, each trying to best the other. Outh'n lost time and again, but he was definitely improving. And Kol had to be quicker to catch his movements...
  • Day 10 - Daily Word Count:122; Total Word Count:20179; Prompt: Mild - Lines: There was a genuine quality in the tone of [Kol's] voice so Outh'n answered honestly, if a little short on details. "I don't know. When I'd fight back in my village, it made the fight last longer and landed me in more pain." "You don't have that luxury here, eik'it. ...This isn't a scuffle between younglings. It's a fight for your life and the lives of your people."
  • Day 11 - Daily Word Count: 2387; Total Word Count: 22566; Prompt: Wild - Lines: A bubbly gurgle was the only warning he had before two slimy, webbed claws grabbed for his hind legs. If it hadn’t been for his quick reflexes, his life would’ve ended there. He spun, looking everywhere for the creature’s body but the only thing he could see was that single pair of claws, opening and closing, extending and retracting.
The movement somehow intrigued him and he watched closely, waiting for the next attack. Open and shut, forward and back, the slow drip of muck, all worked together to lull him into a state of half-sleep. When the attack came, Outh’n was in no shape to defend himself. Cold claws of death ringed his back paws and slowly pulled him under the leaf-strewn floor of the forest.
  • Day 12 - Daily Word Count: 3663; Total Word Count: 26229; Prompt: Hair - Lines: “What are you looking for here?”
“These.” Eiva pointed to a small bowl filled with brilliantly colored glashiin beads. He smiled. “Ah!” she exclaimed. “I knew it!” She carefully chose several beads in pale shimmering purple, solid shiny black, and a frosty golden yellow.
“What are you going to do with them?”
Somewhat distracted, she answered. “They’re for my hair of course.”
    “Of course,” he echoed, smirking.
“Outh’n, if you didn’t want to be here, you could’ve just said no.”
He raised and eyebrow and asked, “Really?”
She beamed, baring both of her fangs. The feral quality wasn’t lost on him, especially since she paired it with eyebrows dipping sharply above her nose.
“I didn’t think so.” Outh’n crossed his arms over his chest...
  • Day 13 - Daily Word Count: 371; Total Word Count: 26600; Prompt: Bald (I didn't write anything that showed this prompt.) - Lines: The air was heavy, hardly breathable.
  • Day 14 - Daily Word Count: Total Word Count: Prompt: War (I didn't write about war yesterday. Not even a skirmish or scuffle.) - Lines: Y'Dahnndrya is a planet which is mostly water. There are two large continents and several islands of various sizes, most of which lie in the smallest ocean between the continents.

I Need Your Help!

To those who continue to read my sometimes monotonous posts, I appreciate you so much. I have in mind to start a new weekly or bi-weekly installment which would focus on snippets of my current work. What do you think? Are you interested in reading as I refine? I'd love to hear from you. I can't fix what's broken if I don't know where the problem is. I look forward to reading your responses to this survey.
