Regency Romance Book Reviews: "A Duke for Daisy" and "The Redemption of the Scared Duchess"1/8/2020
I'm glad my reading goal went so well in 2019. This leaves me a nice cushion for sharing the reviews. However, this year, I'm going to try to slow down a bit and read one book each week. I'm almost positive I'll exceed the goal because my husband and I are still reading together on longer drives. But I definitely want to put more of my energy into getting Surge published this year. Yep, you heard correctly. Chronologically, this book must come next in the series, so Over Land & Under Stone will be shelved for a while. I'm considering some serious rewriting for it, especially at the beginning.
On to the book reviews! Book Review: A Duke for Daisy (The Blooming Brides Book 1) by Ellie St. Clair
![]() My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed reading this book. I think the circumstances of the characters were fairly unique and the characters themselves well-written. The setting was interesting and I loved the heroine's special place. I felt like the story dragged in a couple of places but it wasn't for long. I'd recommend this book to those who enjoy Regency romance, historical romance, and happy endings. View all my reviews Book Review: The Redemption of the Scared Duchess by Emma Linfield
![]() My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was pleasantly relieved to see this was a story about two people who actually grew to care for each other in a real sense and not due to momentary passions or attraction to things that will fade over time. Both characters were appropriately concerned about the proprieties of the time and I thought that added a lot to the believability of the tale. One thing I wasn't sure about was the paranoia of the hero. Why was he like this? It didn't ever become clear to me as I kept reading, and as a result, I kind of got tired of him reacting to things badly. This was the only thing I didn't particularly like about this book and the reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five. If you enjoy Regency romance novels, historical romance, and/or clean romance, you should check out this book. View all my reviews
I'm considering a few new additions to the blog. I've learned a few things since I started writing in 2016 and I'd like to share that knowledge with other authors. I'd also like to share some actual written work within my blog. For this last item, I'm considering the use of story prompts. I don't know if I'll go with prose prompts, one word prompts, photo prompts, or a mixture of those. (Let's be honest. It'll probably be a mixture.)
One of my author friends, Martha Bechtel, sends out a series of prompts each month to her newsletter subscribers. She's really good at creating story prompts! If you'd like to see for yourself, you can see a few prompts she's shared on her IG page, or visit her website and sign up for her newsletter. If you'd like to get the prompts without signing up to her newsletter, they can be purchased through Amazon. (I'm not getting any money from anyone to share this info with you. I'm just trying to help out my friend.) I'm not sure this link will work since Amazon is picky about their links. If it doesn't, you can get to her Amazon listings through her website. Would you be interested in writing from story prompts but aren't even sure what that means? Martha's written an article about it on her blog. You can check that out here. Thank you so much for stopping by! Did you read something that captured your attention? What was it? Feel free to share in the comments. I hope you'll stop in again on Friday or next Wednesday!
