I'll start with my apology. I wanted to host at least one more indie author interview for you this month but due to unforeseen circumstances, it's not going to happen until later. It's coming but I've had to postpone it until next year. I hope to have it ready for February which will be perfect for the author's genre. I hope you'll enjoy the book reviews I have to share with you this month and will find something you find intriguing. On the flip side, maybe you'll find something in my reviews that'll make you pause before buying. Whatever the case, I hope you'll get something good out of the book reviews I'm sharing with you this month.
Book Review: Highland Arms (Highland Chronicles Tales #1) by Cathie Dunn
Highland Arms by Cathie Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I do love a Highland tale and this one was fun. I thought the plot was very interesting and the characters were well written. For those who are concerned about such things, there were a couple of places in the story which were more graphic but for the most part, it was an adventure-like romance tale. The setting was well written. I had no trouble imagining the surroundings. The characters showed some depth and growth throughout the book. If you enjoy spicy romance, adventure, the Highlands, and historical romance, you might enjoy this story.

It's short but what can you say beyond what I've said here? The story /was/ fun, which is why I gave it four stars. But the plot, while interesting, was still predictable. Also, there were sex scenes I had to skip over. I'm starting to read the reviews more carefully before snagging the free books. You'll see fewer of these in the upcoming year. Eventually, I hope to weed them out entirely. Sex scenes are just not what I'm looking for in a story.
Book Review: The Bravest of Them All by Laurel O'Donnell
The Bravest of Them All by Laurel O'Donnell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Perfect medieval love story except for one single line. I'm just not a fan of slang phrases in general within a romance novel unless it fits the character using it as well as the time period. I'm fairly certain medieval people didn't use the phrase "come with" without adding the appropriate pronoun or noun after it. Other than that, this is a great story. An adventurous plot, a strong heroine, a manly hero, and beautifully painted scenery combine to add life to the love which grows between the MCs. I truly enjoyed this book. If you like adventure, love stories, medieval times, and clean reads, you should definitely try reading it.

First, it's been a while since I finished this book and I think I must have read 20 more since then. I had to refresh my memory before typing this text. It was indeed a clean read and I so appreciated that. Truly, in the realm of free books, finding a clean romance is like hunting for a specific needle in a needle stack the size of a haystack, as my oldest daughter is fond of saying. This one was like fantasy and romance all rolled into one so it was a triple win for me. I hope you'll give it a try. Also, if you'd like to check out the author's website, just click here to visit. It looks like she writes urban and paranormal fantasies, in addition to her historical romances, so be sure to check it out.
I always talk about what I'm reading. But what have you been reading lately, Dear Reader? Do you think it's something I should check out, maybe add to my TBR list? Let me know in the comments or shoot me a message on my contact page.
