Robin Takes The Scenic Route

September Challenges Wrapped Up & October Challenge Begun

10/4/2019

I realized yesterday that I'd forgotten to create another newsletter for my subscribers. So for them, I'll have a freebie ready next month. A decent freebie for an author this time...a short story. While I hope it will be clear and concise, free from typos and grammatical errors, I can't make any promises since I'll be editing it myself. But know that I will do my utmost to create a story you will be likely to enjoy.
OK. On with the challenge responses!

#MiddleEarthAdventures2019 Wrapped Up

Here are the final responses for this challenge, which had a giveaway attached to it. I doubt I'll win the giveaway but I certainly enjoyed sharing some book stack photos and a little about my WIP.
Here's the prompt list:
  • Day 27 - Eucatastrophe: Unexpected Joy - I put 'surprise' on the photo instead of 'joy'...XD. But this book stack is full of books which were a surprising joy to me. Some were surprising to read. Others were surprise gifts.
  • Day 28 - Appendices: Sequels & Spin-offs - I chose to showcase some of the books I have which include sequels. I don't think I have any 'spin-off' books.
  • Day 39 - Smaug's Treasure: #bookhaul - We aren't able to buy very many books each month and sometimes we don't buy any. I wasn't sure I'd be able to have a post to share for this one but yea! I managed it. :) I bought two ebooks one of my author friends wrote. And we purchased three books when we went to the bookstore. Woo-hoo!
  • Day 30 - Grey Havens: September Wrap-Up - I didn't write much on my WIP...again...and while that's a bummer, I did get to do lots of other things which needed to be done. I won't list them all but writing-wise, I was able to write every day in my journal without fail. I've been trying to get back into journaling and my current spiritual walk gives me ample items to take note of.

#WIPjoy September Challenge Wrapped Up

Here are the prompts for the final days of the challenge:
  • Day 27 - An accomplishment you're proud of this month (any) - I read the prompt wrong, saw "any" and thought "Well, I did publish one book..." but that was in 2018. So I guess my accomplishment I'm proud of for this month is writing in my journal every day, meeting that goal I set at the beginning of September.
  • Day 28 & 29 - A character's ideal ending that you'd find ideal to - I know Zek would be so happy if he and Liha ended up together and I would be, too. I still don't know if that's going to happen.
  • Day 30 - Shout-out your faithful supporters - I listed them all in the photo. You can follow the ones with the '@' sign on IG.

New October Challenge: #1WordPromptChallenge

I decided early on that I'd only tackle one challenge this month and chose the One Word Prompt Challenge. It's simple enough to offer a wide range of options on how to respond to the prompts. I should be able to easily incorporate it into my Preptober work (prepping in October for Nanowrimo in November).
Here are the prompts for the first few days of this challenge hosted by @mjvaughn1_author (title photo linked to their IG page):
  • Day 1 - Start: Rough start today for the #1wordpromptchallenge which I'm using to help me with #preptober. But the sunrise was gorgeous today and I've got my first story binder ready. I need to prep three because I'm going to be working on a series of shorter stories. My goal is to write three at about 17k each for #nanowrimo2019. Y'all send up some prayers for me if you pray because the way things have been going lately, I need those. What's your plan for #nanowrimo this year, Fellow Authors? I'd love to hear about it.
  • Day 2 - Sun: Y'Dahnndrya is a world with two suns. The greater is Tsifi'Ra and the lesser, Mit'Ra. I decided to try my hand at drawing my own sun symbol for M'Neshunnaya. What do you think? I also decided to share the opening lines of my first book, Ripples, which is the first in my Children of Y'Dahnndrya series.
  • Day 3 - Moon: Again, I wanted to try my hand at drawing moon symbols that represent the pantheon of false gods the Sekot Mundei worship. Then, when I sat down to draw, I ended up with a landscape of the mountains of Genzet and the moons setting. I'd love to hear your thoughts. There's no story snippet with this one because I'm fighting either a nasty sinus drip or a nasty cold. Either way, I'm tired and having trouble focusing or doing anything strenuous for too long. I hope I'll be feeling better by Sunday, though. Instead, I just listed the moons and their respective colors. -- Min is dark blue and the largest. Dahl is the most like our own moon, and is the smallest of the five. Go'it is aqua and the second largest. Yur'eh is banded in shades of yellow, gold, and brown. Sho'tha is red and black.

So begins Preptober and I am both eager and apprehensive about how my upcoming Nano project will turn out. I think intense planning might be necessary here but we'll have to see. It's a good thing I'm not necessarily attached to my outlines and use them more as guidelines. Sometimes they give me insight into a character's backstory. Sometimes they just don't seem to fit at all. Other times, they hit the mark and I'll use those pieces. So it's all good. :)
Hope to see you back here next Friday. You can see how these prompts are helping me prepare!
