Yesterday I decided it was time to start putting my marketing graphics together for 'Over Land & Under Stone'. I'm not certain whether it will be ready before my current Nano project but since the rough draft is together, I'd like to get as much done as possible on the promotional things. Time management is crucial for me and I'm so bad at it. But I keep going.
#WIPjoy Day 18 - What's something that makes your MC lose control?
Ya'el's fears seem more complex to me and those are the things that cause her to lose control. She is afraid of total darkness and doesn't like to feel trapped. Her inability to master swimming (at first) is partially because being under water makes her feel trapped. When she loses control, she panics and either freezes or chatters nervously.
Kol's anger at the followers of the Sekot Mundei are what send him over the edge. They took his a'ada's (father's) life while he was still young. Because of that, he was never able to see his o'oso (son) succeed where Kol had always failed because of sickness and frailty. The culture and tradition of Genzet Clan is still in the works but it's different enough that it might be hard to understand why physical abuse drove Kol to succeed where it drives many of us to suicide and slow death through substance abuse. I'll be working hard on getting those details ironed out in the coming months.
#BAWritersLife Day 3 - My WIP
My current WIP is 'Surge' and is a YA Fantasy Fiction novel set in the world of Y'Dahnndrya. All my fiction novels (so far) take place in this universe. I started with the idea of writing in 3rd Person Omniscent POV. It looks like I'm going to end up in 3rd Person Multiple POV...the most difficult to keep track of, I think. (This seems like my lot in life. LOL)
Ya'el Shirasdatir is the main character. She's training to become the new Guardian of Yacan, Serafin.
Kol Udota plays an important role as her Iteiki (teacher), and also might be a love interest. (Only time will tell.)
Edrea is the last of her kind (the Terreilia - the sentient trees). She's also the co-guardian of Yacan. If Ya'el doesn't assume her role as Serafin at the time of the lunar conjunction, if she fails the Greift (joining with Edrea), then Edrea will die and Yacan will fall.
I'm not so good at summarizing my stories. I don't really like doing that, so I guess that's the reason. It's a good thing most of these challenges have at least one opportunity to give a short synopsis, 3-sentence synopsis, etc. of your story. All this practice is only making me a stronger writer.
Most of you know, if you've been keeping up with my posts, that we have a new kitten in our family. She's an interesting writing buddy. Today she was more distracting than helpful. We removed the carpet from the room where I work and she had a blast chasing her toys across the wood floor. She's dozing in the window now but she has good reason. I can't even imagine having the idea of that much energy! LOL Yesterday, though, she sat on my shoulders long enough to catch this photo. It's a miracle we're both looking in the same direction. XD
And here's a photo of the work I'm doing on my Wattpad banner for OLUS. (I use GIMP. It's a free program if you're interested.) I had to modify my original design (which I'd planned for) to match what now exists as the Sekot Mundei. Since the moons now have definite colors associated with them, it needed to match. I also decided to carry over the flourishes I made for Ripples and continue using that ripple as a recurring theme for each story. What do you think? (PS It's off-set on purpose. Trying to compensate for the Wattpad menu bar and tab menu makes it a bit more difficult.)
