Writing Challenges Week 3: Days 17 - 20

6/21/2019

Week 3 has come to a close and I can't believe July is right around the corner. I probably won't do more than one writing challenge next month. I'll also drop the Monday blog posts since next month is a Camp Nano month. Is anyone else participating?
Anyway, on with the challenge responses!

#AuthorsChallenge2019 June Edition: Days 17 - 20

“Ugh! Not again,” Nali groaned, baring her budding fangs. The treehouse remained out of reach. Her o’boer and his friends had dared her to try entering when they built it last Ek’shi and hung that rope through the floor. She’d been trying to climb it ever since.
She gave the rope a vicious tug and swung it away from her. The knot on the end thumped her hard on its return. “Why can’t I do it?” she wailed, falling to her knees. “I just wanted to be close to o’boer,” she mumbled. “It’s all I have left of him now.”

Day 20 - If I Were An Animal - I'd be a snarly pallas cat. I feel like this has got to be my spirit animal since I think I've made every expression the google search pulled up.
Want to see more images of me? (aka Pallas Cat awesomeness) Click here to see what Google has to offer on this fascinating creature. Seriously... Every. Dang. Expression...

#TenThingsChallenge For Writers: Days 17 - 20

I chose to list items a person in my WIP world might find scary.

Day 19 - Places to Visit - Reading in columns, top to bottom, moving left to right: 1. Okinawa, Japan (My grandfather was stationed there for a short time. He never talked much about it, though.) 2. Kyoto, Japan (I want to see the old architecture and historic places there.) 3. The Great Redwood Forest (This one's do-able.) 4. Norway (My husband's heritage is largely Scandanavian.) 5. San Angelo, TX (It'd be good to see "home" again. No where else we lived felt like home as much as San Angelo did...a do-able trip.) 6. Germany (My heritage is largely German and western European.) 7. Ireland (and Scotland, and Wales, and England) 8. The cliff dwellings of the Anasazi (This one's also do-able.) 9. Machu Pichu 10. Santorini, Greece.

Day 20 - Describe Your Antagonist - It was pretty hard to describe Shi Malaki. Maybe I need to work more on his profile...soon...

#WorldBuildingQuest Challenge: Days 17 - 20

Genzettin families are mostly patriarchal. When it comes to males seeking a life-mating with females, the former must present themselves before the female they wish to court. They have to prove their worth. The choice is up to her. Females take the last name of the males they choose as life-mates. There's a system of balance in place that affords both parties in a life-mating the respect they deserve as equals. Children are perceived as blessings in most families since the family line will continue through them.

Day 19 - Work in Genzet functions much like the medieval apprenticeship. These are the guilds I've created for OLUS, but there are definitely more. A student, eik'it, is chosen by a Master, Ken'narri, also called a teacher (iteik'i). The eik'it becomes an apprentice (prentikari), then a journeyman (jurnimi), then a lakavi which is just below Ken'narri. A lakavi works a long time before they can earn the title of Ken'narri. . . Aetha - Healer; Asazyi - Assassin; Delvri - Miner; Divini'I - Religious Guides; Griffi Trainers; Karvi - Gemstone Carvers; Plysheri - Polishers; Smaitha - Metal Workers; Skori - Scourers; Tak'kobi - Piercer; Ver'therin - Military

Day 20 - The Guardian garners the most respect in Genzet, followed closely by the Divini'I, then the Masters who are elected to the Guild Chambers. All positions are supposed to be earned through merit, but there's definitely corruption at work in Genzet. The Guilds are ranked according to the importance to creating revenue for the whole Clan. So miners, polishers, carvers, metal-workers are ranked higher while scourers and assassins are ranked lower. There's some mobility between the ranks. Zec's parents are a miner and a polisher, both members of the Guild Chamber. He'd be expected to follow a career path that mirrored one of those. But his aptitude for carving shows up clearly early on in his life. So his parents did what was best for him and spoke to Tor, who is not only one of the most respected carvers, but also a guide. This is how Zec ends up as a carver. Ibin Etina's family were part of a very low ranking guild, menial labor. She determined on her own not to remain trapped there. Her parents refuse to speak to her, even though her honorable position and considerable wealth could ease their lot in life.

I wasn't going to do this. I have no problem understanding that no matter how good a writer you are, there will always be flaws in your work. I happen to like leaving a couple of flaws in my projects. Makes them more human. So I just chose the two most troublesome points I'm going to tackle during the rewrite I'll do for Camp Nano.

Day 19 - Character Q & A
Picture
Day 20 - Zec likes how carving just comes to him naturally. He also takes joy in being faithful to Andurdrao. He's proud to be an Inessi.
I was supposed to do the Day 19 challenge as an IG Story. I'm sure you can gather I didn't. I don't have time to answer lots of questions on social media and yesterday was particularly busy in the evening. So I thought, why not include a survey in the blog post? :) I'll create another blog post to answer the questions if I get enough responses.

    Character Q & A

    Choose one.
    Please ask only one question.
Please tell me what you loved about this character or find interesting about them. I can't wait to hear what you think!
Submit

Thanks for keeping up with my progress on these challenges. I love sharing these. And if it helps to encourage or inspire another author, then I consider all this work a gigantic win.
